2025 First Citizen Award Recipient
Dr. Diane Rutledge is the 63rd recipient of Springfield's prestigious First Citizen Award.
A lifelong educator, mentor, and community leader, Dr. Rutledge has dedicated more than five decades to improving the lives of children, families, and organizations throughout the Springfield area through her leadership, volunteerism, and advocacy.
While her distinguished career included serving as Superintendent of Springfield Public Schools District 186, it was her extraordinary commitment to serving others that earned her the 2025 First Citizen Award. Throughout her career, Dr. Rutledge provided visionary leadership to more than two dozen nonprofit and civic organizations, including Memorial Health, United Way of Central Illinois, Boys and Girls Club of Central Illinois, and the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln.
A passionate advocate for literacy and lifelong learning, Dr. Rutledge also championed initiatives such as Books for Babies and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, helping inspire a love of reading for generations of children. Her unwavering dedication to education, philanthropy, and community service has left a lasting legacy across the Springfield region.
